Downtown Sacramento unfolds right outside our door, blending rich history with contemporary culture. From iconic attractions and riverfront strolls to standout restaurants and entertainment, everything is within easy reach from The Citizen.
From its groundbreaking debut in 1925, The Citizen Hotel has been an impressive addition to the Sacramento skyline. Originally known as the Cal-West building, California's first skyscraper, the statuesque building was designed by California's first state architect. In 2008, the historic landmark was reimagined into The Citizen Hotel, where talented designers blended its original grandeur with modern sophistication and luxurious amenities.
The Citizen has always embraced the conversation, commentary, and character of our state capitol. We celebrate this in our partnerships with acclaimed political cartoonists Jack Ohman, Rex Babin and Newton Pratt. Their acclaimed political cartoons bring that spirit to life with a raised eyebrow and perfectly timed punchline throughout the hotel.
